Little Moments, Big Lessons: Learning Starts at Home

November 7, 2026

By Wendy J. Wallace, DO, President of CCF

Fall may make you think about school starting and learning in the classroom. It should also be a reminder that children are learning every day, and their parents are their greatest teachers.

I am always amazed at toddlers learning to wash their hands, say thank you, and know what comes next in their daily schedule. Those reliable cues are comforting and make a child feel safe.

Children learn by listening, watching, and being shown how to do things. Keep instructions simple and small. Learning builds confidence!

When you teach a child, you are building a strong relationship and preparing their brain for future learning.

Look for little moments to teach a child, and you will feel more confident as a parent, too!
